A quick read on the dangers of saying what if in motherhood.

“What if” is a big fat fear seed being planted by the enemy.

What if my kids don’t grow up to know Jesus?

What if we have a broken relationship?

What if they grow up to lie, cheat, steal, etc.?

What if I have ruined them for life?

What if they were better off without me?

What if I just can’t control the outcome???

“What if” is focusing on a future outcome that we cannot control.

Jesus said we are to focus on today, not tomorrow…

“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”  Matthew 6:34 NLT

When the “what ifs” take a hold of our hearts we give way to a prideful mind. It feels productive to worry, but it turns destructive quickly.

By focusing on the “what ifs” we focus on trying to find a solution ourselves.

We must fight the enemy and take our “what-ifs” to the Lord to allow Him to BE our solution.

He is able to open our hearts up to the truth and give us peace.

“These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” Matthew 6:32-34 NLT

You will make mistakes, you will experience poor reactions to strong emotions and you’ll get messy in motherhood…

…but the Lord knew that, it is why he sent Jesus to cleanse us of our mess and find peace in Him.

“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” Hebrews 4:16 NLT

Mama, I don’t expect a simple blog post to miraculously erase all your fears…

…fears and what-ifs challenge me daily too.

My hope is this blog will encourage and remind you to take those fears to the Lord and find peace if only for this very moment.
