Making Prayer a Consistent Part of Your Motherhood Journey

“How do I stop yelling and screaming at my kids?”

I’m not interested in fluffy content when I am desperate for change.

(I want truth, even if it’s hard to hear.)

Today, I am sharing what was essential to my growth in overcoming destructive anger and burnout.

Here is the most honest answer I can give you.

You can’t save yourself.

You can’t heal destructive behavior on your own.

You can’t will yourself to be better.

You cannot manifest healing.

There’s no program that will give you instant results.

True healing takes dying to self and surrendering to the Lord.

Our flesh is weak; when angry, it feels easier to yell, scream, scroll, gossip, eat, drink, shop, avoid conflict, go silent, belittle, hit, etc.

Healing from destructive behaviors takes the Lord’s strength.

You will only have lasting change if you have the Lord working in you.

Repent, ask him to restore you and strengthen you with his Spirit.

Pray for his will to replace your will, ask what he wants from you, how you can serve him.

Pray for wisdom and strength and then put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18).

Have you blamed others or your circumstances for your poor choices or actions?

(If you have, it’s time to step beyond victim mode and surrender.)

If you want to change, you need to take responsibility daily by surrendering your life to the Lord.

It is not through your own work you will be restored; it will be through his work in you.

Commit to spending time with Him every day – make it a priority.

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal” 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (NKJV).
