Looking for ways to calm anger down in the heat of the moment?
You know yelling at the kids isn’t productive but it feels good to release the steam and for some reason they just seem to listen better when you get angry.
The truth is an angry mama creates more tension and frustration for herself and her children.
A mama who is slow to anger calms the conflicts.
“A hot-tempered man stirs up strife, but he who is slow to anger quiets contention.” Proverbs 15:18 ESV
If you are over the yelling, belittling, threatening, etc….
It’s time to call a SIT and Pray time out.
“Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, And put your trust in the LORD.” Psalms 4:4-5 NKJV
Stop and separate.
Separate yourself and your kids from each other for a bit.
Take three or more deep breaths. In through your nose, out through your mouth – to calm the nervous system.
Take time to figure out what’s going on for you and the kids.
Are you or they sick?
Has it been a difficult school day?
Do you keep getting interrupted?
Are you hormonal?
What else is going on?
Seek wisdom from the Lord.
Pray. Confess the sin that happened in your anger.
Repent and ask the Lord’s forgiveness.
Ask for guidance, and go to His word to feed your soul.
Now problem solve.
Ask the Lord to help you find ways to redirect the kids.
Go on a walk?
Outside to play?
Play worship music and have a dance party?
Use these trials to get cozy with the Lord and point your kids to Christ.
“A wise woman builds her home, but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands.” Proverbs 14:1 NLT
